EIFS in the Spotlight
This month’s EIFS in the Spotlight goes to Sto Corp’s Knickerbocker Commons, a residential project located in the heart of Brooklyn. The six-story, 24-unit affordable housing structure is only the second in the country to meet the “passive house” standards. The specialized design of the exterior insulation and finish system facade helps to shade the windows from the summer sun, while collecting rays during the winter and providing added insulation capabilities. Current projections estimate that Knickerbocker Commons will use as little as 10% of the energy a normal New York City building of comparable size.
Project Details:
Knickerbocker Commons – 803 Knickerbocker Avenue, Brooklyn, NY
Completed in June 2014
Developer – Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council
Architect – Chris Benedict, RA – New York, NY
Applicator – Alpha Construction, Astoria, NY
